Taking Stock

The other morning the sun was shining as the trained rolled out of the Ottawa station. I was Montreal-bound. In the morning sun I could see the light dew on the leaves of trees and blades of grass. It was finally a summer day, long overdue, and ready to be savoured.

I have written about distractions, about being distracted—sometimes feeling as though the dream of a full writing life has been running ahead of me. It isn't always easy to take stock of where I am, or to see my successes. In this technology-driven world, it took a posting on my Facebook wall to make me see [again] just how far I've come in pursuing my dream: "You have the life man. You keep writing and I'll keep reading."

This is the life, my life, and I am writing. Everyday. I may not have the "success" of a Margaret Atwood or a Dan Brown or a John Grisham, but I have been successful. I had the courage to chase a dream, to work at it daily—to see my writing in print.

Like the bright summer day I'm savouring my successes.
